Moving Animal Information and Links Animal Rescue Help First

I am sadly moving my animal lenses from Squidoo because they are being locked. I will be adding parts to Animal Cognizance. There are many animals that I never got to list in this series but I will try to do more. I never tire of learning about the different species and looking at the beautiful photographs but I do get upset at times when reading about abuse or about the dwindling numbers of these beautiful creatures. I am trying the only way I know how to enlighten people and introduce the wonderful world of our fellow travelers.

It only takes one click each day to put a few morsels of food in a sheltered animals belly. It amazes me that more people don't do something that is free in order to give a helping hand. I have had a mental competition with myself, I know wow ... how lame. Anyway I watch the numbers each day and have longed to see the number of bowls donated hit 200,000 but over the years it hasn't. This could be one of the most satisfying things you do since it is so easy and the end result is the wagging tail of a happy cat or dog

Javan rhinos are the most threatened of the five rhino species, with as few as 35 individuals surviving in Ujung Kulon National Park in Java, Indonesia.

Their numbers are slowly increasing but they are still critically endangered 
Threats to the Mountain Gorilla includes - War, habitat loss, disease, poaching and charcoal making

The population risks inbreeding and a loss of genetic diversity because there are so few Cross River gorillas and they live in groups that interact infrequently if at all.

Where these endangered animals live it is illegal to hunt Gorillas but the wildlife laws are lax. The killing of just one of the few remaining can be detrimental in this already small population.

Hawksbills are particularly susceptible to entanglement in gill nets and accidental capture on fishing hooks. Marine turtles need to reach the surface to breathe, and therefore many drown once caught. Known as bycatch, this is a serious threat to hawksbill turtles. As fishing activity expands, this threat is more of a problem.
